This
year’s Breeders’ Cup World Championships will be held on
Oct. 26-27 at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, N.J. This will
be the first Breeders’ Cup to be conducted over two
days. Friday’s program will debut three new $1 million
Breeders’ Cup races. The Championships will conclude on
Saturday with eight Breeders Cup races.
ESPN takes the reins again this year as the official
television broadcaster airing all Big 11 races in their
entirety beginning Friday, October 26, 2008 on ESPN &
ESPN 2.
Horse racing fans will flock to Monmouth Park to witness
horse contenders from around the world to compete for
the accumulated $23 million in purses for the eight plus
three Breeders Cup races, bringing the total races to 11
starting this year!
Breeders Cup Classic
Betting 2008
The Biggest race on the card is the Breeders Cup classic
and is a race for three year old and up fillies, mares,
colts, and geldings. The Breeders Cup classic is run on
the dirt track at one and one quarter mile.
The very best of the best eventually compete in the
final race for the ultimate in prestige and the richest
purse in horse racing: the $5 million Breeders' Cup
Classic.
It's the "World Cup" of thoroughbred racing - as top
horses from around the globe meet to compete in the
Breeders Cup World Championship.
The Breeders' Cup World Championships caps the annual
racing season with the richest races in the sport,
honoring the fastest sprinters, most promising
two-year-olds, and the best turf horses.
In keeping with its star status as the ultimate in
thoroughbred horse racing, the very first Breeders Cup
took place at Hollywood Park in 1984. Almost
immediately, the race took on the glamour of the Oscar
Awards, giving the sport a high-profile and very much
anticipated end-of-year finale.
A small Breeders Cup Tip would be to look at the three
year olds who have performed remarkably at the Breeders'
Cup Classic, winning seven of the first 20 runnings.
